The Witcher 3 gets a graphics-boosting PC patch as furor erupts over visual quality - reidwhentersed73

One of the ugliest bits about The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt's launch has been the ongoing controversy about the "graphics downgrade" on PC. If you're not comrade, Kirk Hamilton's written a pretty excellent summary at Kotaku. Basically, in-game Witcher 3 doesn't look rather risen to snuff compared to a 2022 early gameplay trailer for The Witcher 3—and some argue it doesn't straight-grained look as good as The Witcher 2 at multiplication.

I mentioned as much in my impressions of the game connected Monday. I still cogitate the game is stunning, personally, and flavour most of the controversy is overblown. The Witcher 3's dish International Relations and Security Network't really in screenshots, I think, merely when for illustrate a storm sweeps in at sunset. It's alive in a elbow room most games haven't yet accomplished.

But I too agree The Witcher 3 ISN't exactly the graphics card-punishing beast we all expected (unless you activate Nvidia's HairWorks option with an AMD Radeon graphics card, that is).

The Witcher 3

CD Projekt headquarters the last fortnight, I conceive of.

To that end, CD Projekt released a patch today that should clear up some of your woes. Maybe. Present's the booming list of changes, most of them related to graphics and performance:

  • Improves stability in gameplay and the UI
  • Improves performance especially in cutscenes and gameplay
  • Fixes grass and foliage pop that could pass after concentration parameters were changed
  • Improves Nvidia Hairworks performance
  • Boosted texture anisotropy sampling to 16x on Ultra preset
  • Taper Position-process settings extended from Soured/On to Off/Low/High
  • Descent particles will now properly appear afterwards killing enemies on the water
  • Corrects a bug where player was able to shoot bolts at couthie NPCs
  • Improves menu handling
  • Corrects an issue with Stamina regeneration piece sprinting
  • Fixes a cursor lock military issue that sometimes occurred when scrolling the map
  • Loosely improves world map focus on
  • Improves input signal reactivity when using keyboard
  • Corrects some lacking translations in the UI
  • Corrects an issue in dialog selections
  • Rostan Muggs is back
  • Minor SFX improvements

That "Improves grass and leafage pop" note is aimed directly at the enthusiast PC crowd. Earlier this week, people on Reddit discovered you could make the grass flavor slightly better by increasing the density from its line of descent setting of 2400 up to 8000 Beaver State even 12000. The only problem was that you'd and so experience a draw more foliage flickering whenever you turned roughly. There's also another patch inbound that will make .ini editing simpler.

The Witcher 3

This highlights another thing about the PC version of The Witcher 3: Regardless of whether you're satisfied with how it looks straightaway, I ideate it's only a weigh of time before mortal mods it to look better. Time will enjoin.

CD Projekt rundle to Eurogamer about the ongoing contestation. "I cannot argue—if the great unwashe see changes, we cannot argue," said studio apartment head Adam Badowski, "but in that respect are knotty technical reasons behind it."

Those technical reasons? The rendering system changed so things would look away better during the day and at night. Also, textures exchanged to accommodate texture moving while Geralt is galloping. Smoke disappeared because on DX11 it priming computers to a kibosh.

"Maybe we shouldn't have shown that [trailer], I don't know, but we didn't know that it wasn't going to work, so it's not a lie Oregon a bad will—that's why we didn't comment actively," said Standard candle Projekt carbon monoxide gas-founder Marcin Iwinski. "We don't correspond there is a downgrade but it's our opinion, and gamers' feeling can be opposite. If they made their buying decision supported the 2022 materials, I'm deeply sorry for that, and we are discussing how we can make it up to them because that's not fair."

"It's very important to stress: we are continuously operative on the PC version," he continuing, "and we will be adding a lot of pig out, and in that location is more to come. We've verified IT in the past that we support our games and we will be sounding at the feedback and trying to pull round better."

Is it a perfect reply? Atomic number 102, and I doubt it will live up to everyone. CD Projekt is the latest in a long product line of games to do this, including Find out Dogs. And it bequeath observe happening, because selling. All I can say is: Catch buying games founded connected trailers. Trailers are lies, designed to receive you to spend money. Yes, eve "gameplay" trailers. Trailers can be fun. They privy be exciting. They can follow entertaining. But they should make you interested in buying a game, not convinced you have to buy it.
